GETTING THEM TO LAUGH: Interview with author/illustrator Adam Rex

If you can get us to laugh, you can get us to read.
My son had very little interest in reading as he started out in school. There was more than a little twisting of the arm and pulling of the teeth to get through many of the assigned reading from school. "They're too long" or "they're all about girls," was too often the argument I heard.

That changed with one book, actually one line from this particular book. One of the best days as a parent was my son coming into my room saying, "Dad, you've gotta read this." But before I could take the book to read, he started reading to me a funny little poem called "Godzilla Pooped on My Honda" from the book Frankenstein Takes the Cake by Adam Rex.

Adam was totally clued in to the mind of a young male reader. Each page was a single poem. My son could start and stop when and where he wanted. The illustrations had amazing creativity and detail. But most of all it made him laugh. With this book, Adam was pure genius.

Needless to say, I became a fan of Adam Rex long before I met him. And here in this podcast, I have the pleasure of interviewing him. Enjoy!
